Visiting all the Roman Catholic Cathedrals of the United States

In 2014, I set as a personal goal to visit and pray in the Cathedrals of every Archdiocese and Diocese in the United States. This is an ongoing pilgrimage for me. By visiting, photographing, and displaying my images of all the Cathedrals, I hope to encourage people to visit and be connected to the "mother church" of their diocese. Beyond the celebrations of our local parish, the most basic pilgrimage we can make is to our diocesan cathedral - there to pray for the local church and its pastor, the bishop. For me this is also a unique way to experience the history of the Church in our country. The various architectural styles in which Cathedrals have been constructed over the years, the various sizes of cathedrals, there locations, the beautiful art which adorn them - all speakof the history of the various local Churches which make up Catholic America. There are more than 200 Cathedrals and co-Cathedrals around our country. I have visited more than half of them and I will steadily and intentionally work on visiting the rest...

This is the kind of thing that I do.  With a visit to Hawaii on my 50th birthday, I completed my desire to visit all 50 states. I want to visit all 50 state capitol buildings, I want to visit all the MLB ball parks...  But this desire to visit the Cathedrals is a particular desire rooted in the idea of pilgrimage and a desire to pray always for the Church in our Country.  I will add Cathedrals to this page only after I visited, prayed in, and photographed the Cathedral. I decided to list them by State simply as shorthand way of cataloguing them.  I will include the weblinks for the Cathedral and the Wikipedia article about the Cathedrals.

Diocese of Orange - Christ Cathedral

Once the famed "Crystal Cathedral" of Rev. Dr. Robert Schuller (of the Reformed Church of America), the building and its campus was sold to the Catholic Diocese of Orange in 2010. It took more than a decade (and millions of dollars) to transform the building into a Catholic Church.
