35% of the material in St. Luke’s Gospel appears only in that Gospel. An examination of those texts reveals a particularly Lucan understanding of life, ministry, and mission of Jesus. As we prepare to begin a liturgical year in which many of our Sunday Gospel Readings are taken from this Gospel, it is helpful to study those texts to know what themes can be expected in our worship life during this year. Fr. Bart will examine those texts thematically in 6 sessions.

In the 500 years since Catholicism arrived on the shores of North America, the Church has canonized 13 people whose primary field of work was in what is today the United States of America. A quick study of the lives of these 13 Saints provides a rich look into the complex history of American Catholicism. Using their own words and contemporary testimonies about their lives, Fr. Bart Hutcherson, OP will paint a picture of the American Church and the great works of these men and women who shaped that Church. 3rd Floor Common Room, Old Union, Wednesday October 16, 2024, 7:00-8:30 PM. Refreshments will be served.

In Sundays between July 28 and August 25, 2024, the Liturgy provides us with a wonderful opportunity to reflect on a theology of the Church (ecclesiology) and the place of the Eucharist within that theology (sacramental theology). Fr. Bart will draw on the rich image of the Church presented by St. Paul in his Letter to the Ephesians, the sacramental teachings presented by Jesus in John 6, and the documents of Vatican 2 to call us to a deep reflection on our life together as a Christian Community, especially as we gather to worship and strive to be the Mystical Body of Christ in the world. Each week there will be a study guide available on this site if you would like to do some further contemplation on the themes presented in each part of the series. NEW ADVENTURES - New Assignment begins July 2024

I am very pleased to announce that I will be moving to a new assignment/ministry beginning July 1, 2024. I have loved the years that I have been a part of the Itinerant Preaching Team of my Dominican Province. I have preached missions and retreats all over the country. The creativity and freedom I have enjoyed have kept every month and every year exciting and unpredictable. I have met amazing people and ministered to wonderful communities. As much as I have enjoyed the traveling aspect of my ministry, I have missed having a stable community to minister with and minister to. My pastoral assignments have produced life-long friendships, and moving around just does not lend itself to those kinds of friendships. I have also missed ministering to the "young church" as I did with years of Youth and young adult ministry.

So you can imagine I was thrilled when my Provincial invited me to consider a return to Campus Ministry. After that consideration and prayer, he offered and I accepted reassignment to be the Pastor of the Catholic Community at Stanford University (CC@S). My predecessor in that ministry has been there for 11 years. He is the third Dominican Pastor of the CC@S. We have been ministering on that Campus for nearly 30 years and I am committed to striving to continue the great work that has been accomplished by our friars. I ask prayers for me, the staff do the Parish, and the members and work of the Catholic Community during these days of transition.

The photos to the right are images of "my new church." The Catholic Community at Stanford does not have its own church building, but rather worships in the spectacular and beautiful Stanford Memorial Church. We share that facility with other Christian groups on Campus. Because Stanford is a private university, campus ministries are much more integrated into the life of the university, This creates some interesting advantages, but also means significant challenges.

I will be continuing my teaching ministry at the Dominican School of Philosophy and Theology (our province's "seminary"). I will travel up to Berkeley one day each week to teach homiletics courses.
